April report

Where did the month of April go?  It's was the second month of autumn but I think we might have an early start with winter as we had cooler nights already.

It was a busy month with normal commitments, craft and sport. I was the star of the week once at bowling and the girls entered into one tournament played at their home centre.

Redcliffe
The first two weeks of the month were school holidays and I tried to keep my kids busy with activities and day trips.  Besides going to the movies and shops, we had bowling leagues as normal.  We had two day trips to the beach when I drove to the north side of Brisbane to visit Bribie Island and Redcliffe.  It has been well over 20 years since I last visited these places so it was quite a surprise to noticed the changes over the years.

The kids have returned back to school for term two for two weeks now.  My 13 yo only got her school photo package home today after delays on getting them before Easter.  My 12 yo had her districts cross country when school resumed.  The poor girl had to run the course again as a small group of students ran the wrong way into the course.  It wasn't really their fault as the marshall on duty wasn't paying attention at that particular time.

Camp's accomodation
Only on the weekend I was away on scrap camp at our usual venue. I think it is now five years since I have been going to scrap camps twice a year.  It was kinda the right weekend to be away and be indoors as it rained cats and dogs from Friday night to Sunday morning.  At one time we were getting abit too concern thinking we might of ending up extending our stay if flood waters were around in the lower areas of the road.  Thankfully the rain stopped during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Have a good month!

Short week

This week will be a short week as we have a public holiday in the middle of the week.  This holiday known as ANZAC DAY is more a memorial day for our beloved soldiers who fought and died to save our country, many years ago. Because I am the weakest link in remembering our history dates, I don't really know when Anzac Day started.  I just assumed it was after WW1. But I do remember when I was a young miss, my parents used to take me to the city to watch the parade march on Anzac Day.  My kids never seen one but their schools have a memorial service every year.

Besides being a public holiday today, I have my scrap camp preparations to finish off and be ready in two days time.  I leave home on Friday evening and don't come back home until Sunday evening.

How was your weekend?  It was quite a busy weekend as we had bowling leagues as normal and one junior tournament to be played on Sunday.  Further details can be seen in my sporting blog.

On Saturday night I had a late night as I went to the cinema with my best friend.  We watched BATTLESHIP.  I thought the movie was good with alot of action going throughout the movie. I won't say much about the movie incase you plan on seeing it.

Time to go and seriously get into this camp prep while the other household members are still asleep, Have a good week!

Term two started

Hi everyone!  How's your week been going?  My girls went back to school after a two week break.

I had parent teacher interviews at the high school this week and I was given a written mid term report in person.  Except for one subject Monique did well with average to above average marks for achievement, effort and behaviour.  On the same report they list the distribution of achievement codes.  Majority of the year level received an average result for most subjects. Only up to ten students received the top marks but my daugher wasn't one of them this time.

Today Rachel will be running for the districts cross country.  She is one of the top five students in her age group to represent her school at another school in Logan.  There is about a dozen schools in the Logan districts competing at this school.  It's only a walking distance from Rachel's school.

I had a busy week with scrap prep of page layout ideas and attended two meets. The third meet will be held tonight.

What's on your agenda for this weekend?  Besides bowling leagues and one tournament, I plan on seeing a movie or two at the cinema and continue on getting my scrap prep done and ready for next weekend.

Better go as I have alot to do today.  Have a great weekend!

Easter school holidays

It seems these current school holidays are coming to a close quite quickly.  And what a busy time the girls and I had this time for the past two weeks.  Besides catching up with a couple of people, either in person or on facebook, we managed to have some water time before winter sets in.

Last week we had an afternoon at a public pool.  This centre had a mini waterpark with six slides.  All was going well until I had an injury under one of my arms.  This slide was faster then I expected so I lost my siting position, hit the side of the slide wall and hit the water at the bottom with poor posture. It sure knocked wind out of me and I was quite sore for at least a day or so.

In the same week we had spent one day in Bribie Island.  The last time I was there was back in the late 20th century so it was quite a surprise to see how the population of this area increased in two decades. My kids never been there before so it was no different for them to even noticed.  We had about half an hour in the surf and the rest of the day was sitting in the shady spot for a picnic and let the kids play on the playground.

This week we spent a day in Redcliffe.   We hanged around at the lagoon area for only two hours then moved to a park area so the kids could play on the playground.  Inspite the weather change to cooler temps and windy most of us weren't in the water for very long.  But overall it was a nice sunny day to be out on a picnic and have a casual stroll along the beach's walkway.  I think I will take the girls back here when the weather warms up again after the spring school holidays. They loved the lagoon area! Its very similar to Southbank's (in Brisbane) pool.

In two weeks we viewed three new release movies at the cinema.  We watched THE LORAX in 3D, TITANIC in 3D and Mirror Mirror.  As far as I know I think my 13 yo daughter is going to go to the cinema this weekend to watch a movie or two with her father. I might consider taking my 12 yo to the cinema to see the latest pirate movie while the other two are at the cinema watching what they wish to see.

Today the kids and I went to a league's club on the northside of Brisbane.  We met my parents there to have lunch from one of their cafes and watch their free light entertainment from John McSweeney for two hours. There is alot of seniors attend on Friday mornings so most of them knows and become friends of my parents. Afew seniors were up doing their line dancing moves.  John had a couple of kid's songs (Hokey Pokey and chicken dance) for the juniors to dance to but both of my kids didn't want to know about it. I wish they were younger again!

After the concert we had lunch there. I had a club sandwich with ham, cheese and rabbit food. It was quite huge and I didn't have enough room in my tummy to fill it with a sweet dessert.  I was still feeling quite full at dinner time so I didn't barely consume much.

What's on your agenda for this weekend?  At this stage I am hoping to make a start with my scrap preparations as the camp is only two weekends away.  I hope to make a start during this week but most days I was busy with other events on.  In the evenings I was too tired to think about organising photos and page layout ideas.  I know what project to work on, just I need to work out the page layout ideas to do on an eight inch size album. I am hoping I can at least complete one album by the time the camp weekend ends on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking of sleep I think it is time for my beauty sleep as I will have an early start to wake up tomorrow.  Goodnight! And have a good weekend.

Easter weekend

Our Easter weekend is coming to a close quite fast.  How was your Easter?   This weekend we had our time at home as well as being away on day trips. Did you go anything exciting with the kids?

On Good Friday it was Rachel's 12th birthday.  We went to my parent's house for lunch.  In the afternoon I spend some time with my 20 yo feline friend (who is dying) and Rachel had her bowling league.  Her league was very quiet as only half the players showed up to play.

On Easter Saturday Monique had her bowling league in the morning.  Being a long weekend, not many showed up either as she had an early finish too.  In the afternoon we went to the pool and small waterpark in Brisbane with my best friend and kids for a fun filled afternoon in the water. I was surprise the water wasn't as cold as I thought it would.  It seems the kids did get on very well with Monique as they are all similar ages.

Yesterday I decided to have the day at home and make a start with the spring clean of this laptop.  I was starting to have too many files of normal documents stored in my hard drive.  I burn some files onto the CD and then deleted over 50 from the rubbish bin. I still got my files from my picture files to download onto CDs and download more photos from my camera to do as well which I hope to get done sometime this week.

In the morning I had the Easter egg hunt organised with the kids. Because they are now older I had to learn to hide the eggs better.  I must of been good because it taken them a short while to find six small eggs in our backyard. And I don't think these eggs lasted very long in their hands either.

Last night we had our bowling league.  We bowled well to win all the points against a blind scored team.  I was the star of the week this time as I bowled a 191 game last week.  The league had an Easter raffle last night.  We didn't win a thing but one of the bowlers won 2/3 prizes.  Not fair!

How's the weather your way?  For the first time in a long time we had fine and warm weather all weekend.  This morning when I watched the morning news on TV, it was said some snow has fallen in Tasmania.  The capital city (HOBART) is only going to reach 12 degrees today. I guess our southern states of Australia might be in for a cold winter in the mountain alps if snow has fallen already.

Currently it's lunchtime on Easter Monday here.  This afternoon I plan on going to the cinema with Monique to see TITANIC in 3D.  It will be a 3 hr long movie! Both of us seen the movie a couple of times on DVD but I never had the opportunity to see it on the big screen years ago.  This week marks the 100th anniversary when the Titanic ship had the accident in 1912.

Better go and get some things done before we leave.  Have a good week!

School Holidays 1

Hi everyone!  How was your week been going? It's hard to believe Easter starts tomorrow.  Where is this year going?  It will be Christmas again before we know it.  Actually, that is a scary thought as my very soon turning 12 yo daughter will be graduating primary school in December.

This week was the first week of the school holidays.  It is strange to have this holiday for two weeks as we were used to having the Easter weekend first then the week off afterwards.  But for the first time starting this year, the government changed the holiday by having the students getting two weeks off over the Easter break.

This week has been a variety with time at home as well as out.  On Monday afternoon we went to the cinema to see The Lorax in 3D. It was a funny movie if you are into Dr Seuz books.

On Tuesday morning Rachel had her dentist appointment.  The dentist was happy to report that her teeth are fine.  But she did have to remove some plaque in odd places as Rachel doesn't clean her teeth properly. Been donkey years since I last visited a clinic.  I know I need some serious dental work done to my teeth but it will cost me too much to have it done right now.

Today we went to the beach with another family to help celebrate Rachel's birthday.  We had a great day swimming in the surf and relaxing under the shade.  The disadvantage problem about sitting under a shady tree was the birds coming over later in the afternoon.  while consuming afternoon tea. Others in my group thought it was hilarious (and I know you all will think the same and be falling off your computer chair after reading this) that I got poop on by a bird in a tree. It not only happened once, it was twice and the damn bird pooped on my slice of chocolate cake (that I baked myself) as well. I am not sure if it was the damn same bird but my car (as it was parked in a shady area) copped some pooped as well. Damn birds!!

Have a great Easter!

Sunday 1 April 2012

Hello April!

Where did March go? It doesn't seem long ago our autumn season just started. But I wouldn't call it true autumn as we still had summery temperatures and rain.  There was some flooding hit in North QLD as they had rainfall caused from a tropical low.  Even this rain went down as far as South of Mackay where a town was flooded too.  This put my plans to travel over Easter on hold as I thought it was going to continue rain over these current holidays.  I am now starting to kick myself as it isn't the first time I decided not to go because of the weather predictions.

How was your weekend?  I had a busy Saturday with three events on. In the morning I had my scrap workshop to attend until 1pm.  At 4pm Rachel had her Easter tournament to bowl in at her home centre.  She came 4th to win a small gift box of Easter goodies.  In the evening I was out catching up with a friend until late.  Driving home I spotted a ute on fire on Juers Street, Kingston. It was kinda a scary experience and had trouble sleeping because I thought about my vehicle if it was safe to leave it parked in my own driveway for the rest of the night.

Today I forgot it was April Fools Day.  And I was caught out by one of my friends on facebook.  I felt like a fool once I realised it was a joke.  But I am happy to report I had a great night at bowling. Besides sharing the points to win, I managed to bowl 76 pins over average.  I almost scored a 200 game.  I was only short of a good game by nine pins.  After bowling I stayed for an extra hour to have dinner with one team.  It was brought up the lanes will be changing again as a couple of new teams might be starting to join our league soon.
