Bad news

How was your week?  I had a busy week with things to do at home and places to go.  To pick a day of the week I would have to say Wednesday was the best day as I caught up with a craft buddy in the city.  She used to live in Brisbane but moved to Perth.  She was in Brisbane for five nights for a business matter. We had lunch and went window shopping for a couple of hours then walked over to Southbank for the final hour before going home in the peak hour traffic on the SE freeway south. It taken almost an hour to get home that afternoon.

On Thursday night Monique had her drama excursion with other drama students in her year level.  They went to see ANIMAL FARM at QPAC. I thought about taking Rachel to see the performance on the same night but the theatre wasn't vacant. While Monique was watching the musical play I went to my parent's house for two hours as they don't live far away from QPAC.

I dont know how many students went to see this performance but I did noticed at pick up time the street near QPAC was full of parked cars at the loading zone.  So I decided to go for a drive for ten minutes to where I used to work in South Brisbane as it has been many years since I last went there.  I was amazed with the changes!! By the time I got back to QPAC other vehicles were gone and I had a 15 yo waiting beside her teacher.

When it rains it pours! Besides the media stating the bad news around the world, I had my share of bad news this week. First it was losing a 20 yo plus feline friend on Sunday night.  I have known this cat, half my life. I spent alot of time with the cat when he was very young. I used to babysit a child in the neighbourhood where the cat lived at. I saw the child (all grown up now) about six months ago.  He still treats me like I am his second mum. He was a real cutie when he was a young lad.
Last night my MIL phoned here and we chat for two hours. It seems my FIL has more health issues rising.  In one month he had a heart pacemaker install and a hip replacement operation.  This week the doctor has found two cysts in his liver. One cyst is over ten centimetres big. I suspect it won't be better news once he comes to Brisbane for further tests.  My MIL did say all he is doing at present time is sleeping. He turns 70 yo next month.
Have a good weekend everyone!

Interesting week

How was your week? I had an interesting week with news of all sorts.  Also I watched three DVD hires as they were due to be returned yesterday. I watched The Lucky One (its good for a chick flick), The Amazing Spiderman (remake again from previous movies) and The Iron Lady. I thought the movie was abit daunting to my taste but I do admire what Margaret Thatcher had done during her PM days in Britain.  She was very strong into politics from a young age.

Last Sunday was Mother's Day in Australia. The girls and I had a busy day. In the morning Monique and I bowled in a fun tournament at the local bowling alley.  We came 1st and I won Mother's Day goodies. Afterwards I taken Rachel to my parent's house so I could spend a couple of hours with my Mum and my Dad (because it was his birthday yesterday).  SInce then she had a fall and sustained some injuries to her knees.  I suspect she might be starting to have health issues to her hips as she seems to be falling over more these days. My FIL was the same as her until he had a hip replacement surgery done last month.

On Tuesday I had my weekly casual scrap at the store.  I am just about caught up with the school albums after working on them for afew weeks. Yesterday I was at scrapbooking for a whole day with some CM friends. Further details read my craft diary blog under LAST MEMORANZA.

Because this event was held at a function hall at a lawn bowls club, we all had purchased lunch at the cafe. The menu prices was abit high but once you see what is on your plate, it is well worth the quantity of the price deal. I had a long lunch break because I got interested in watching the lawn bowls competition for about half an hour. It looks so simple to play!!  Very similar throw like ten pin bowling but not as powerful.

Last week we had the news about Monique's approval to commence her traineeship in the near future.  On Wednesday morning we will have another interview at the school which this time she will be given her modules to commence studying. I think maybe next Friday she might commence her work experience.

At present time Monique is at the Gold Coast border to bowl in a tournament today. The game will commence very shortly. She will bowl four games in a five man team. It takes almost an hour to complete each game. If the travel home (with another girl and her mum) goes smoothly without any delays Monique should be home by 4pm.

Have a good week!

Disappointed Moments

A new month had already began seven days ago! Not sure what kind of month it will become but I already had my dose of bad news. I have two acquiescences lost their relatives and a big international company has gone bankrupt.

My weekend was fairly quiet in general as Rachel and her father had an overnighter in Hervey Bay. I thought about going to see a local Rock 'n' Roll musical with Monique but all the tickets were sold out for both Saturday's matinee and evening sessions.

Instead Monique and I went to the shops, video store and cinema on Saturday afternoon/evening to watch Identify Thief.  I didn't think the movie was that good as the previews showed.

In the evening we watched 2/3 of our hired DVDs.  I watched Magic Mike (which I didn't think it was as good as THE FULL MONTY from years before) while Monique watched Werewolf.  I still have got "Sapphires" Movie to watch before it's due to be returned on this Saturday.

Monday was a nice day to be out with my best friend.  We went to the movies to see OBLIVION. It was an okay movie with Tom Cruise!! He sure has aged alot since TOP GUN days. We suspect Tom Cruise might like motorbikes because we seen him ride one in a couple of movies (like TOP GUN, etc).

Today I was meant to be attending to a scrap workshop but that event has been cancelled. Over the weekend I discovered my scrap workshops with CM might become a thing of the past as the company has gone into receivership.  For further details you need to read my latest entry from MY CRAFT DIARY blog. Guess now until further notice I will only be attending to casual meets of scrapbooking at the craft store on Tuesdays, like I did yesterday. Out of our little group I was the only one there.  One lady is away on holidays all this month but I don't know what the reason was for the rest of the group to not attend. Oh well, at least I managed to be quite productive and get afew pages created.  At present time I am working on getting all the school albums up to date.

Not sure what the rest of this week will bring but I do know I have some house chores to catch up on and get completed before the weekend comes around again.  Today it's not the right day for washing to be done. I am glad I done two loads yesterday as today is mostly overcast with the odd sunshine showing at times.  Supposely forecast some rain but it hasn't happen here as yet. But it's bound to happen sooner or later as my ankles are giving the indication of a weather change in the system.

To all the mums and grandmas out there, have a wonderful Mother's Day with your family on Sunday.

April report

Wow!  Where did April go?  I can't believe it's the first day of May already.

In Australia we are now half way into our autumn season.  I have noticed our daylight hours are growing shorter and our evening temperatures are beginning to feel like a wild winter is coming  Good hugging weather!! Even in the early mornings you need to wear warm clothing but once morning tea starts you need to change clothes as the temperature gauges rises alittle faster then you think.

How was your month of April?  As usual I was busy with normal commitments involving my kids, bowling and scrapbooking. I joined an online craft group which I started to work on ATCs again after such a long break for a year or two.

April was a busy month with school holidays for the first two weeks of the month.  The first week was busy catching afew new release movies at the cinema with either my best friend or my kids.  The second week was spend more at home and catching up with afew family members.

Rachel's birthday happened during the school holidays.  Now it's official........she's a young teenager!!  If anyone says terrible twos were bad, I don't think so!! Dealing with a 15 yo (who thinks she's 25) is bad enough. I just hope Rachel doesn't do the same mistakes her darling sister done last year. There are times I wish my kids are still in the early childhood years!!

On 15th April most schools resumed for term two. In the first week back I had my parent teacher interviews with Monique's teachers.  I was given good reports from all of her teachers. Also I had seen written results on paper as her mid term report card arrived in the post at the beginning of the school holidays.

In term one, Monique had apply to do a school based traineeship to complete a certificate in sports and recreation.  She had her interview at QEII during the school holidays and signing paperwork happened last week at the school when a couple of members from QSA came in. Just got to wait for approval from the Education Department then her course will commence.  She will be off to her field placement once a week at a primary school.  It isn't any of the primary schools she was enrolled at but it will be about a 15 minute drive for me to drop her off.

Not surprise really she is keen on choosing a sport related career as she was very good during her primary school life in PE and shown an interest in bowling since she was 3 years old. Guess it doesn't help when I am a keen bowler since I was in primary school. But I didn't join any leagues or tournaments until I left school.

Speaking of bowling Monique entered three tournaments in April. All played in Brisbane and Logan. She came 5th in one and 3rd in another.

The best highlight of my month was attending to the weekend camp of scrapbooking last weekend. I worked on school theme pages of Rachel's primary years and finishing off a couple of gift albums at long last.

Time to head off and get some things done before settling down to sleep.  Have a good month of May!  To all the mums and grandmas I hope you will have a good Mother's Day with your family next weekend.
