Term one

Goodbye Term one!  Nine weeks went out the door fast!  And what a busy term it has been for most families with school age children. For me I was busy with normal commitmentsa and events on.

Rachel started high school this year and she seem to settled in well in her new environment.  Besides studying the common core subjects, she had two electives as well.  She chose Art and Food Studies.

Towards the end of term I met all of her teachers at parent teacher interviews.  Also she had a breakfast assessment dish (for food studies) to make up and serve to her guest.  She invited me to attend to taste her cooking skills.  It was good!!

Yesterday (as being the last day of term one) her school had their annual cross country event.  The plan was to attend to watch her age group do their distance but I got involved instead. I walked the coarse with afew SEU students and three teachers.

I have been on abit of an expensure spree with two items. I own the 5th generation ipod.  I have been busy downloading free apps of games and play daily. Have afew songs from itunes as well and other download items I am interested in.

Had to get a new car as the old car was dying.  Too much mechanical problems started and it was going to cost more then the market value of the vehicle.

The best highlight of this term was owning a brand new car and done alot of driving to schools, bowling, scrapbooking meets and other events. A great little hatch with great fuel economy!!  And has extra features that an older model car never had.

Can't really remember how much kilometres on the clock at present time but I had the free inspection and car wash done at the dealership last month. The car will be due for its first common service during winter.

Once driving this new model I have been on the lookout for other Corollas of the same model.  Two months ago, I had alot of rubber necks (including the police) having a good look at my car.  One passenger of an older model Corolla vehicle gave me the thumbs up. I am starting to see them more on the roads now.  Majority of the ones I see on the ones pictured here.  There is an odd black, blue, orange and another red vehicle registrated on our roads.

Time to go as I have some things I must do today.
Have a safe and Happy Easter everyone!

Easter is coming!

Hi everyone!  How was your week?  I had a busy week with normal commitments and extras. For the first time in months I actually got to sleep in until 10am today. Monique had a sleepover at a friend's house last night and they dropped her off home before lunchtime.

Great news!  The bowling league resumed back to normal on Sunday night.  The centre had all their power supplied was restored. Speaking of power supply, tonight is Earth Hour. Who is going to turn off their lights and other power supplies (not needed) for an hour?

On Tuesday afternoon I had my parent teacher interviews at the high school. I met all of Rachel's new teachers and all interviews were over in an hour.  The school had a free sausage sizzle on but by the time we got there, all the free food was gone before 5pm.  I can't remember what we consumed for dinner that night but it would of been something quick and simple.

On Thursday I started on camp preparations for scrap camp which will be held next month.  I plan on working on the girl's school albums. Try to get the pages up to date with last year's events and extras.  Last night we had our scrap workshop on until midnight.  It was a fun creative night with alot of laughs!! The group who showed up last night are attending to camp next month so it will be a fun and full of laughs all weekend. The best medicine you can have for free!!

Yesterday was a busy day! I was at the high school for Rachel's assessment in food studies.  The students had to make a breakfast menu (based from all the food groups) and served it to their invited guest/s.  There were only five parents and two siblings who came to enjoy a breakfast. Felt like I was on my Kitchen Rules but at least I wasn't the judge for points. There were about 20 students in this class with one teacher and one teacher aide who helps afew students who has difficulties.

Another week to go and Easter will be here.  Afterwards school holidays for two weeks!  I dread school holidays now!!  Any parent with teenagers would understand what it is like.  You need to have a tree growing with money on it!  It would be nice to own such tree but more likely light fingered community members would steal my money from this dreamed tree.

What have you got planned for next weekend (EASTER)?  I am looking forward to a long weekend of quietness.  The other household members will be away for three nights, staying at my inlaw's home in Hervey Bay.

Better go as its time to settle down for the night!  Have a nice Sunday!

Screwed up week

Hi everyone! How was your week? Another week just about gone out the door.  It seems it doesn't matter which corner I turn these days, I always hear someone is in hospital or has been diagnosed with some serious illness that could threaten their lifestyle.

What a start of the week I had!  My MIL stayed here out of the blue on Monday night while my FIL was in hospital to have a heart pacemaker installed.  The original plan was to go to hospital for only a routine check up but the doctor found out his heart stopped for 12 seconds.  He is already on the waiting list for a hip replacement but they aren't sure if the operation will go ahead now. Also they suspect he might have the early stages of alzheimers disease.  The kids are more sad about what's happening as it is their second grandfather to be sick and hospitalized for a short time. What hurt Monique the most was her grandfather forgot who she was at arrival. They had majority of school hours off school on Tuesday to go up to the hospital to visit him.

Because of what happened earlier this week, we forgot about Monique's excusion happened on Wednesday but she was so lucky to just make it on time to catch the bus.  It was an excursion for a bus load of Art students to visit the Art Gallery in South Brisbane.

The kids only have another two weeks of school left then they will be on school holidays for two weeks after the Easter weekend. Next week I will have two school events to attend to. Rachel has parent teacher interviews and I have been invited to attend to her breakfast menu (as part of her food studies assessment).  Wish her luck!

This morning I attended to a scrapbooking workshop until 1pm.  It was nice to get out of the house and chat to other people.  I think that was what I really need after the type of week I had.

Better go as my 14 yo daughter wants me to be her taxi driver to travel to a birthday party. Have a good weekend everyone!

Screwed up weekend

Good morning everyone!  It's just after midnight and I thought I would post my updates before logging off to bed. No wonder why it's so humid because it is raining here.  Seems to be less sunshine happened again this past weekend.  Looks like we are in the clear to not have a TC hit inland but this TC might be heading towards New Caledonia instead.  I hope this island has been warned by now.

How was your weekend?  I had more a quiet weekend at home as I wasn't in the mood to do anything special.  My weekend didn't start off good. Besides a couple of minor things that happened,  the news did come in on Friday afternoon about the passing of my craft friend's husband.  He lost his battle to live after being diagnosed with a rapid aggressive brain tumour on 19th February. His funeral will be held tomorrow morning.

Our internet has been giving us a hard time. It seems to had a mind of its own to choose when to connect or disconnect by itself. It is really starting to piss me off!!  Instead I worked on finishing off (well tried to but I got interrupted alot) some more Easter cards and played games and music from my ipod until late on Saturday night.

On Saturday afternoon Rachel made some pikelets to serve up for afternoon tea.  They tasted that good, they disappear fast like lightning. She made pikelets as her cooking lesson at school on Friday afternoon but that batch wasn't that great to consume.  I worked out qhat went wrong there as I watched her made them at home.  Of course I had to assist her at times with the right amount of ingredients to add.

Monique went to the cinema twice to see the same movie "HANSEL AND GRETEL" this weekend.  She seen the movie the first time with her father yesterday and off to the cinema again with friends this morning as she loves it!!  After the reports given about this movie I don't know if I want to see the movie myself.

Last night's bowling showed alot of dramas.  The centre wasn't in full operation as the main power supply had a major electrical fault to one of their fuses that happened that day.  It caused alot of power supply lost to lights in the office, carparks and only half the lanes were in operation. I was told it could be up to two weeks before the centre resumes back to normal. Luckily for us we are only a small numbered league but other leagues might have to cancel for one week as they need more then half the centre lanes to play.  Even social bowlers won't be able to play this week. Overall we won all the points against one of the lower team placements.  I bowled crap but my team mate managed to save us by bowling great games..

Time for bed as it is getting very late.  Have a good week!

Another week passes

Good morning everyone!  How was your week?  If my belated Nanna was still alive, she would've been 103 on Monday. She died five years ago from Alzheimers disease. But I was out that day by spending some time with my best friend.  We went to the movies to see FLIGHT and had lunch afterwards at a cafe in Brisbane.

Other than normal commitments, I had two scrap meets on Tuesday and Wednesday. Yesterday afternoon we decided to call in to the primary school for about half an hour as Rachel wanted to see some staff members. I was abit surprised to see an old building disappeared.

You may recall I mentioned I have a couple of sick patients in previous posts.  The gravely ill male patient with an aggressive brain tumour is still sustaining life as much as possible. He might not last the weekend as he is not responding much at all now. I can't believe how much a person's life can change in such a short time.  He was quite a healthy person until this pest of a mean tumour came along.  Another friend is currently in hospital since Wednesday.  She had surgery caused from breast cancer.  Her surgery went well and is making a nice recovery.  They think she might return home this weekend.

At present time I am enjoying the sights of sunshine moments after weeks of rain and more rain.  But the sun might not last for very long as there is a tropical cyclone on watch. We have a category one TC named Sandra, forming in the eastern Coral Sea. This TC is expected to continue moving east during the next 24 hours while intensifying. Tomorrow the TC is expected to turn southward. Current indications state the system will remain well out to sea until at least the middle of next week. Currently this TC poses no threat to the state's coast.

It's now lunchtime so I better go and get some chores done before the kids come home from school in over three hours.  Have a good weekend everyone!

Welcome Autumn!

Goodbye summer!  Today is the first offical day of autumn in Australia. And by the looks of outside right now, we might be in for another wet weekend.  Haven't seen much of the sun lately but it would be nice if could back come out as it is so wet and has musty smell from so much moisture in the atmosphere.

Guess this weekend will be a good time to stay indoors and work on my Easter cards for the kids to hand out to their teachers on the last week of term one. Easter is only 28 days away!!  Does anyone have Easter plans as yet? We haven't made any concrete plans but the kids will be on school holidays for two weeks after the long weekend of Easter.

How was your week?  What a week I had!  Besides bad news about two friends diagnose we had our own drama happened last night.  Rachel broke a skeleton key in half while trying to unlock the back door from the inside. Once the door became unlocked (from the outside only), we changed the old 40 yo lock to a spare old lock (that still works).  We will buy a new lock or another door this weekend.  Looking at this house, it needs some other repairs done as well in the near future but it will come along with a cost.

Better go as I have things to do around here today.  Have a good weekend everyone!
